Colwyn Bay 1 - 7 Stalybridge Celtic - 20/03/01 - League
The Bay's woes continued
as they were hit for seven at Llanelian Road by title chasing Stalybridge
Celtic.
Celtic showed why they are among the front runners for promotion to the
Nationwide Conference with a devestating display, and they had raced into a
three goal lead within the space of fourteen minutes, with the goals coming from
Matthew McNeil, Steve Jones and Tony Sullivan.
Celtic made it four when following a foul by Stuart Gelling, Steve Locke
converted the penalty past stand in keeper Mark Deegan.
The Bay worked hard to try and salvage some battered pride, and substitute
Calvin Davies was unlucky not to score when his 20 yard volley hit the bar.
It was ironic that the
goal of the night came from the Bay, as Craig Lawton scored with a dipping shot
into the top corner after cutting in from the
right.
But it was simply not the Bay's night as further second half goals from Matthew
McNeil, Steve Jones and Kevin Parr wrapped up a 7-1 win for the
visitors.
