Spennymoor United 1 - 1 Colwyn Bay - 02/09/00 - League
After
going behind, the Bay came back to secure a point at Spennymoor United.
The
Bay were without Colin Caton, Deiniol Graham and Jonathan Cross, but making his
debut in the centre of defence was new signing Anthony Fenton
Spennymoor
had the early chances and after nine minutes a Martin Bowes fired his shot
across the face of the Bay’s goal.
The
Bay’s best chance during the early exchanges came after 16th minute when Alun
Evans went past a defender having his shot blocked at the last minute be David
Andison, an away for a corner. From the resultant corner, Evans fired wide from
12 yards.
Spennymoor
had further efforts before the break from Bowes, Craig Veart and Mark Wheldon,
who unleashed a blistering 25 yard
shot, which was saved by Richie Roberts.
Spennymoor
broke the deadlock in the 60th minute. A right wing cross from Wheldon was
headed clear but Craig Veart struck the ball first time from 25 yards past
Richie Roberts and in off the post.
A
goal down, the Bay came searching for the equaliser and they could have scored
when Evans missed with the goal at his mercy. Evans again shot wide a few
minutes later with only John Jackson in the Spennymoor goal to beat. Andison
cleared off the line from substitute Frank Gibbons header.
Colwyn
Bay got a deserved equaliser on 80 minutes when Marc Limbert hit a superb 25
yard free kick past Moor’s keeper John Jackson, and secure a share of the
points.
