Leek Town 2 - 4 Colwyn Bay - 16/04/01 - League
The Bay gave themselves a greater
chance of survival in the Unibond Premier League with a convincing 4-2 win away
at Leek Town.
The much needed win came after Saturday's 4-0 defeat at title favourites
Stalybridge Celtic who have lost only twice this season.
Things started badly for the Seagulls though and they fell a goal behind after
just two minutes, Lee Poland netting for the hosts.
However Bay showed the character and resilience their situation requires and
within 20 minutes they had stormed into into a 3-1 lead.
In the 11th minute James McIlvogue opened Bay's account latching on to a through
ball and rounding the keeper before hitting the target.
Deiniol Graham put the Gulls into the lead in the 17th minute rifling the ball
home from 10 yards and two minutes later their lead was increased when the Leek
keeper allowed a Graham Roberts to sneak under his body and into the net.
Marc Limbert spurned a gilt edged chance for the visitors as Leek were
attempting to drag themselves back into the match. In the 35th minute Dave
Whittaker pulled a goal back for the hosts and only a good save from Alex Hill
just before half time kept the visitors lead intact.
Bay desperate for the three points to ease their relegation worries tightened
things up in the second half and allowed Leek only one shot on
target.
Deiniol Graham who was man of the match wrapped things up for Bay picking up a
poor clearance and firing past the advancing Bentley from the edge of the area
for his second goal of the game.
