Colwyn Bay 2 - 1 Hyde United - 05/09/00 - League
The
Bay turned in an impressive display to secure their first home league win of the
season against UniBond League Premier Division leaders Hyde United at Llanelian
Road.
The
Tigers started the brighter of the two teams, Dave Hanson missed a great
opportunity after 5 minutes while Jody Banim shot wide ten minutes later.
The
home side hit back soon after, James McIlvogue headed wide following a cross
from Deiniol Graham on 22 minutes.
A
Graham effort was pushed away by Hyde ‘keeper Graham Bennet, who was also on
hand to deny McIlvogue.
After
a goal less first half, the Bay took the lead four minutes after half time.
Stuart Gelling took advantage of a Hyde error and beat two defenders and the
keeper and provide the pass for James McIlvogue to score from a simple tap in.
Hyde
equalised five minutes later, when Paul Robertson crossed for Jody Banim to fire
in a shot.
But
Bay continued their own push with McIlvogue shooting wide after a croos from
Marc Limbert, while at the other end, Alex Hill saved from Simon Yeo and goal
scorer Banim.
The
Bay regained their lead with what was to be the winner on 65 minutes. Man of the
match Owain Roberts, who was again impressive in midfield, had his hot blocked
by a defender and from the resultant loose ball, up stepped Marc Limbert to fire
a spectacular 25 yard shot into the top corner of the net past Bennet.
Hyde
threw everything forward in an effort to salvage something from the game and the
Bay had to survive some anxious late moments as Gavin Salmon hit the bar and
Marc Limbert cleared a goal bound effort off the line, but the Bay defence, with
new signing Anthony Fenton impressing, held out for a deserved win.
