Hyde United 1 - 1 Colwyn Bay - 25/09/00 - League
The
Bay continued their good start to the season as they earned a battling draw at
Hyde United.
Jonathan
Cross gave the Seagulls a flying start when after just four minutes he picked up
the ball thirty yards out and curled a superb 30 yard shot into the top corner.
The
Tigers responded, most notably when Jody Banim hit the bar. The Bay could have
extended their lead when Frank Gibbons close range shot hit Hyde keeper Graham
Bennet’s outstretched legs.
The
Bay were dealt a triple blow in the second half when Craig Lawton, Owain Roberts
and Alun Evans were forced to leave the field due to injury, and with the Bay
still regrouping following the enforced changes, Hyde equalised. Simon Yeo
latched onto Steve Tobin’s through ball and he chipped Richie Roberts from
fifteen yards.
In
the 69th minute a further blow for the Bay when central defender Anthony Fenton
was sent off for his second bookable offence and ten man Bay had to withstand
further Hyde pressure, with Richie Roberts in outstanding form denying the
Tigers onslaught.
The
Bay could have had a penalty late on in the game, when Gibbons seemed to be
wrestled to the ground in the area as he was bursting through on goal. In the
end battling Bay settling for a share of the points, which pleased Bryn Jones:
“The commitment we showed was first class, and the result was satisfactory
considering the fact that we had an under strength team out”.
