Hucknall Town 1 - 0 Colwyn Bay - 23/12/00 - League
Hucknall completed the 'double'
over the Bay in this UniBond League Premier Division clash.
It was the Nottinghamshire side who had the upper hand during the first half,
with Craig Ludlum firing over the bar early on. Alun Evans was unlucky in the
20th minute, when after breaking through, the ball bobbled away from him on the
tricky pitch.
The only goal of the game came after half an hour's play, when Simon Martin
turned sharply on the edge of the area to crack a glorious effort into the top
corner of the net.
The Bay's cause was further dented minutes into the second half when Colin Caton
was sent off after allegedley stamping on Russell Cooke, an incident which
angered the Seagulls who claimed that Caton had himself been fouled by a tackle
from behind an merely stumbled over his opponent when he lost his balance
following the initial challenge. Protestations from the Bay resulted in Dean
Martin's dismissal from the touchline.
Hucknall continued to dominate the second half and Ludlum's shot was blocked by
Graham Roberts, while Danny Mayman's 25 yard effort was saved by Richie Roberts.
The home side had a goal disallowed on 70 minutes, when Dave Wright was adjudged
to have pushed an opponent, while Andy Morris's header was cleared off the line
by Graham Roberts.
For the Bay Jonathan Cross was inches wide with a curling effort from a corner,
while efforts from James McIlvogue, Alun Evans and Cross were saved.
Hucknall's victory was marred by the late sending off of Gary Ricketts, but
despite a spirited performance by the Bay, they could do little to prevent the
Nottinghamshire side completing the 'double' over them.
