Gainsborough Trinity 1 - 0 Colwyn Bay - 7/1/01 - League
The
Bay's dismal run continued, as they went down 1-0 to Gainsborough Trinity in
this UniBond League Premier Division match.
A goal in the opening quarter was enough to settle it for Trinity. The home side
won a free kick on the left hand side. John Reed swung the ball over and Ian
Gore rose above the defence to head home.
The Seagulls couldn't create any clear cut chances in response, as the hosts
created most of the chances. On 38 minutes, Richie Roberts saved well to deny
Trinity from a second goal whilst from a corner, Newton's drive took a
deflection, but Richie Roberts still managed to palm the ball away.
Newton was always a threat and just before half time he burst through the
middle, but Roberts was on hand to save at his feet.
Within two minutes of the restart, Darren Holmes' cross was headed downwards by
Reed, but Richie Roberts was again to the Bay's rescue to fingertip the ball
over the bar.
The Bay played with a bit more purpose in the second half. Especially with the
introduction of Marc Limbert with 15 minutes to go. And Limbert went close soon
afterwards when he broke into the box, with Trinity keeper Steve Curry denying
him.
The Bay might have grabbed an equaliser late on in the game, when Alun Evans ran
through, but Danny Brown was on hand to deflect Evans's shot past the post.
