Colwyn Bay 3 - 2 Droylsden - 03/10/00 - League
Colwyn
Bay moved into fifth place in the UniBond League Premier Division after twice
coming from behind and snatching victory with two goals in the last nine minutes
at Llanelian Road.
The
Bay lost Colin Caton after only six minutes with a calf injury on Tuesday and
they had a couple of narrow escapes before Droylsden took the lead five minutes
before half time when Stuart Corns scored from John Stannard’s low cross,
after Alun Evans had slipped on the greasy surface.
Owain
Roberts had a curling shot turned round the post by Paul Phillips and then saw a
diving header cleared off the line from
a Jonathan Cross corner before being tripped by Eddie Johnston in the area for a
52nd minute penalty which Deiniol Graham tucked away to put Bay level.
Cross
shot wide from close range and had another effort saved by the keeper, but it
was Droylsden who took the lead against the run of play on 75 minutes when Corns
burst between two defenders to rifle a shot past Richie Roberts.
To
their credit Colwyn Bay fought back again and with nine minutes left, substitute
James McIlvogue ran onto Deiniol Graham’ pass to shoot past Phillips, and five
minutes later following a foul on Owain Roberts, Marc
Limbert struck another of his free kick specials into the top corner of the net
from 20 yards, to earn the Bay all three points.
