Colwyn Bay 1 - 3 Burscough - 02/01/01 - League Cup
The Bay crashed out of the UniBond
League Challenge Cup, following a third successive defeat in the competition.
This was a game the side had to win to have any chance, however small, of
qualifying for the knockout stages of the competition. But they were dealt the
worst possible start when John Lawless netted the opening goal on 13 minutes.
Lawless made it 2-0 after 30 minutes when he struck a superb shot from the edge
of the box, effectively ending Bay's interest in the competition.
But Bay came out in the second half with more bite, and were back in with a
shout when Colin Caton provided Alun Evans, who fired home. On an increasingly
heavy pitch, the Bay pushed for an equaliser, but for all their efforts when
Richie Roberts failed to hold onto John Lawless corner and Mark Wilde was on
hand to take full advantage.
