Colwyn Bay 4 - 1 Burscough - 19/09/00 - League
Deiniol
Graham was the hat-trick hero as Colwyn Bay powered to a 4-1 victory over
UniBond League Premier Division new boys Burscough at Llanelian Road.
It
took just six minutes for Graham to make his mark, swiveling to hit a half
volley past Linnets keeper John Bagnall from 20 yards out.
Graham
was on form, going close with a spectacular volley that went narrowly wide,
twice hitting the woodwork with headers and having two other headers from good
scoring positions saved by Bagnall.
Burscough
hit back after going behind and Mark Price was on hand to block a goal bound
shot from John Lawless with Richie Roberts beaten. Roberts was active in foiling
a number of Burscough chances, saving efforts from Knowles, Birch and
McEvilly.
Colwyn
Bay went 2-0 up just before half time when the impressive Owain Roberts picked
up a loose clearance and drove a low shot into the corner of the net from 18
yards.
Five
minutes after the interval and Deiniol Graham’s leaping header from a Marc
Limbert cross made it 3-0 to the Bay. Soon after that, John Bagnall had to tip
Marc Limbert’s free kick over the bar and was in the right place to make a
superb double save to deny Alun Evans and Craig Lawton. Lawton also had a goal
bound shot deflected wide by a defender and hit another shot over the bar,
following good work from Evans.
Deiniol
Graham completed an impressive attacking display for the Bay and his hat-trick
six minutes from time when he slid in to convert Craig Lawton’s low cross.
The
only black mark on a good night for the Bay was the sending off of game Glen
Graham in the closing moments. He was sent off for dissent after the referee
awarded Burscough a late penalty for his foul on Lee McEvilly, after both the
referee and his assistant failed to spot a handball by Birch during the build up
play. John Lawless netted the consolation spot kick for Burscough.
