Colwyn Bay 1 - 0 Blyth Spartans - 23/09/00 - League
The
Bay maintained their unbeaten home league record with a 1-0 win over Blyth
Spartans at Llanelian Road.
They
carved out the game’s first chance as early as the first minute, when Marc
Limbert’s 18 yard drive was cleared away by Blyth ‘keeper Terry Burke. Eight
minutes later Jonathan Cross’s low shot from 20 yards went narrowly wide.
For
their part Blyth had a number of first half chances, amongst them Matt Hysen
fired wide of the Bay goal from 18 yards while Craig Parry’s header was saved
by Richie Roberts. On the stroke of half time Limbert went close again when he
blasted a 20 yard shot just wide of the post.
The
Bay stepped up the pressure in the second half, and from Limbert’s short
corner, Graham Roberts attempted a lob which was headed off the line.
Minutes
later Spartans nearly caught the Bay on the break, with Gareth Williams seeing
his 25 yard effort saved, and Tony Skedd’s shot was cleared off the line by
Anthony Fenton.
At
the other end Alun Evans had a shot blocked and Craig Lawton hit a powerful
effort from 16 yards which was pushed over the bar by Burke. From a Bay corner
Anthony Fenton headed wide in the 68th minute.
The
Bay break through finally came on 72 minutes. A determined run by Owain Roberts
in midfield eventually found Alun Evans, who turned two defenders 12 yards out
before firing the ball into the left hand corner of the net.
Evans
could have could have made it two, three minutes later when Limbert fed him a
through pass, but Burke was on hand to deny him.
