Bamber Bridge 3 - 4
Colwyn Bay - 26/08/00 - League
An
Alun Evans hat trick helped Colwyn Bay notch up their first League win of the
season at Bamber Bridge.
The
game exploded into life on 12 minutes when Evans put the Bay ahead after. Evans
latched onto a back pass by David Mayes to slot the ball past the advancing
Billy Stewart.
The
Bay increased their lead in the 25th minute when Deiniol Graham broke away on
the right to deliver a perfect cross for Evans to powerfully head into the
corner of the net.
The
Seagulls were in control but a mistake by Mark Woods let in Andy Whittaker for a
simple response in the 28th minute.
Five
minutes before the interval, and Brig were level. Steve Aspinall’s pass sent
Whittaker racing clear and he beat keeper Alex Hill.
The
Bay regained the lead on 58 minutes. Marc Limbert slipped the ball to Graham on
the right and he shrugged off a challenge by Mick Noblett to fire a fierce left
hook drive into the top corner.
Evans completed his hat trick in the 67th minute, when he collected the ball on the right of the area to shoot beyond the helpless keeper from 16 yards.
It
looked all over then but battling Bamber Bridge reduced the deficit 12 minutes
from time. Whittaker supplied the cross from the left for substitute Nigel
Greenwood to score with a spectacular diving header. Whittaker nearly equalised
in the last few minutes when his header hit the bar, but the Bay managed to
clear and held out for their first three points of the season.
