STALYBRIDGE CELTIC 3 - 1 COLWYN BAY - 30/04/00 - League
Colin
Caton was sent off as the Bay fell to their second defeat at Stalybridge this
season. The Seagulls were keen on revenge following their FA Cup exit at Celtic
earlier in the season.
The
Bay went behind after 10 minutes. Stuart Gelling handled Steve Pickford’s
cross, and from the resultant penalty, Eddie Johnston sent Richie Roberts the
wrong way.
Celtic
went 2-0 up three minutes later when Tony Sullivan beat Gelling and curled a 20
yard shot into the top hand corner of the net.
The
Bay were up against it and it was no surprise that the hosts extended their lead
on 23 minutes when Kevin Parr hit home from 15 yards following a free kick.
The
Bay pulled a goal back six minutes later when Marc Limbert struck a superb free
kick from 25 yards that left home ‘keeper Gary Ingham stranded to the spot.
Craig Lawton could have reduced the deficit soon afterwards but rather than pass
to the unmarked Alun Evans he went it alone and could only shoot at Ingham.
Stalybridge
continued their domination after the interval, with Kevin Parr seeing two
efforts hit the woodwork, whilst Andy Scott had two efforts saved by Richie
Roberts and a Tony Sullivan shot was cleared off the line by Mark Price.
The
Bay were reduced to ten men on 65 minutes when Colin Caton was sent off for a
foul on Matthew McNeil.
