COLWYN BAY 4 - 1 GLAN CONWY (at Conwy Utd) - 12/04/00 - North Wales Coast FA Challenge Cup Semi-final
The
Bay booked their place in the Final of the North Wales Coast Challenge Cup with
a 4-1 win over Glan Conwy of the Welsh Alliance at a wet and windy Conwy Morfa.
Glan
Conwy could have taken a shock early lead in the 14th minute when
Colwyn Bay based Ashley Smith fired a shot into the side netting, but a minute
later Marc Limbert’s corner found Danny McGoona, who headed home.
Two
minutes later the Bay were two up when a powerful header from McGoona cannoned
off the bar and rebounded off the chest of keeper Matthew Blair. The Glan Conwy
keeper had to be alert soon after to deny Alun Evans, whilst Evans put another
shot past the post following good work by McGoona.
Steve
Campbell could have reduced the arrears just before the interval, but his shot
went over the bar, and at half time the Bay lead 2-0.
The
Bay had a number of opportunities to extend their lead but they had to wait
until the 70th minute to score a third. A foul on James McIlvogue
resulted in a penalty being rewarded, and Graham Roberts blasted the spot kick.
Jamie
Fairhurst made it four on 83 minutes following a fine solo run whilst a
minute later Glan Conwy scored a deserved consolation through Paul
Rattenbury’s header.
The
Bay now await the winners of the Glantraeth-Flint semi final.
