Worksop Town 2 - 1 Colwyn Bay - 09/02/02 - League

A goal five minutes from time denied Colwyn Bay a share of the points in this UniBond League Premier Division clash at Sandy Lane against Worksop Town.

The Seagulls found themselves trailing after 15 minutes when Worksop cashed in on their first real chance. Crystof Kotylo headed the ball to Paul Eshelby who cut in from the left to curl a glorious effort into the top corner of the net from 20 yards.

Two minutes later, the Bay came close to equalising when Jason Jones swivelled in the box to fire wide from six yards.

Worksop captain Lynden Whitehead saw his goal-bound drive cannon off defender Craig Hogg to safety in the 24th minute.

There were chances for both sides before the break. Eshelby's free kick was carried by the wind beyond keeper Paul Smith but he managed to scramble back and tip the ball over the bar. Andy Todd squandered a golden opportunity by dragging his shot wide from eight yards while a minute later Deiniol Graham broke for the Seagulls only to shoot straight at keeper Jamie Holmshaw.

With the wind at their backs for the second half, Colwyn started well and levelled the scores five minutes after the re-start. Alun Evans's corner reached the far post where Glen Graham, who had scored two own goals in the 3-0 home defeat at the hands of the Tigers last October, took his revenge by heading home the equaliser.

Whitehead missed a chance to give Worksop the edge again in the 55th minute when he volleyed over the bar from five yards, but five minutes later Deiniol Graham picked out Evans on the run but he failed to control the ball in a promising situation.

Eshelby shot wide following good work by Smith and Todd in the 73rd minute but the Seagulls almost snatched the lead in the 81st minute. Deiniol Graham headed the ball down for Marc Limbert who tried to flick it past the advancing Holmshaw who managed to smother it

The winner came in the 85th minute when Ludlam's 30 yard free kick was palmed onto the bar by Smith only for his namesake Gavin Smith to drive the ball into the roof of the net from 10 yards.
