COLWYN BAY had to settle for a point in the first Unibond League Premier Division match at Llanelian Road for six weeks, but they missed a great chance to bag all three in stoppage time.

Deiniol Graham went close for the Seagulls in the second minute, firing wide from 20 yards, and three minutes later a low drive by skipper Graham Roberts from the edge of the area was saved by Phil Naisbett.

Whitby began to impose themselves on the match and in the tenth minute Lee Ure broke on the left of the box only for keeper Paul Smith to block the shot with his legs.

A Deiniol Graham cross was met by James McIlvogue in the 22nd minute, but his header was comfortably saved by the keeper, and eight minutes later Ross Merchant broke through for the visitors only for Smith once again to block with his legs.

The second half was also evenly balanced with Ure heading wide in the 58th minute before Whitby took the lead in the 66th minute.

A speculative shot from 25 yards by Alex Gildean seemed to surprise Smith, who could only palm the ball into the net.

Colwyn Bay hit back to equalise just three minutes later when Alun Evans jinked into the box and was fouled by Dave Anderson to give Deiniol Graham the chance to convert the penalty for his 11th league goal of the season.

McIlvogue should have snatched a 93rd minute winner, but after the keeper failed to hold Evans's free kick, the striker shot over the bar from four yards.
