Colwyn Bay 1 - 0 Vauxhall Motors - 5/10/01 - League

The Bay bounced back from their disappointing FA Cup exit at the hands of Farsley Celtic a few days earlier to record a win against Vauxhall Motors in the Unibond League clash at Llanelian Road. It was new boy Danny Barton, having recently signed on loan from Rhyl who marked his Seagulls debut with the only goal of the game just before half-time. Deiniol Graham twice went close for Bay in the first opening 15 minutes only to see both shots parried by Vauxhall's keeper Chis Holmes. On 18 minutes new boy Barton linked up with his striking partner, but Graham lost out and Holmes gathered the loose ball comfortably. Following another Graham opportunity, this time a header which was saved by the in form Holmes, the visitors went on the offensive and had a number of opportunities to open the scoring in the last five minutes of the first half. The all important and what transpired to be the only goal of the game came just before the interval, Barton was in the right place at the right time to head home a Marc Limbert corner.
In the second half the Seagulls should have extended their lead and the impressive Barton could have added to his tally only to fire wide from 18 yards. The visitors could have snatched a point late on, when John Stanhope's shot flew wide, however the Bay held on and put the misery of their FA Cup exit behind them in the best possible way, securing maximum points and continuing their consistent start to the league season.

The rain comes down at Llanelian Road, but it doesn't rain on debutant Danny Barton's parade.
