Vauxhall Motors 1 - 1 Colwyn Bay - 27/08/01 - League

The Seagulls earned their first point of the season in hard-fought battle at Rivacre Park thanks to a stunning equaliser in the 80th minute from Alun Evans which denied the Motormen a third victory in four matches. In a uneventful first half dominated by a whistle-happy referee, Vauxhall edged the play with some neat football early on and were denied a goal by Paul Smith before Bay tested the home defence. Marc Limbert hit a left-foot drive just wide of the post and James McIlvogue was denied by a great save low down by 'keeper Chris Holmes. Pete Cumiskey should have puts the hosts in front after 35 minutes only to screw his effort wide and seconds later he was ruled offside as he planted his header beyond Smith. Kevin Lynch was then only inches away with his first time effort. Vauxhall finally took the lead two minutes into the second half when a speculative effort by Jon Stanhope from 22 yards deceived Smith who managed to get a hand to the ball. Calvin Davies twice went close for the Bay either side of a let off for the Seagulls as first Robbie Lawton and then Carl Nesbitt had shots blocked on the line. But just when it seemed that the spoils were going to the hosts, Evans fine volley brought the Bay a valuable away point.
