Colwyn Bay 2 - 1 Gainsborough Trinity - 13/04/02 - League

A vital win for the Bay in their efforts to escape the danger zone, picking up three points for the first time since their January win at Bishop Auckland.

Indeed this was their first home win on a Saturday this season with the season entering its final crucial stage.

Knowing that a win was important, the Bay pressed from the start but they had no clear-cut chances until the 22nd minute when they took the lead.

James McIlvogue did well to beat two defenders on the edge of the box and square the ball to Evans who fired a low shot from 16 yards into the net.

Gainsborough were on the back foot as Marc Limbert hammered an angled drive wide and Deiniol Graham's 30-yarder was saved by Gary Ingham.

Gainsborough improved after the interval and home keeper Billy Stewart had to be at full stretch to save Wayne Hall's 25-yard free-kick. Stewart parried a shot from Gary Williams in the 53rd minute but Lee Ellington nipped in to net the rebound.

Knowing that a point was not good enough the Bay searched for a winner and Evans was on target again in the 66th minute as he reacted quickly when Ingham failed to deal with an innocuous-looking through-ball.
