Gainsborough Trinty 1 - 2 Colwyn Bay - 01/12/01 - League
Despite arriving late at
Gainsborough and being reduced to ten men, the Bay secured three points from
this UniBond League Premier Division clash.
The visitors had the better of things during the opening exchanges and on 20
minutes Marc Limbert broke on the right, his cross headed wide by Graham
Roberts.
Three minutes later and a back pass almost let in James McIlvogue but fortunately
for the home side, Danny Brown cleared the danger. Bay went
close again, this time another Limbert cross found Glen Graham, but the defender
fired his effort over the bar.
It was the hosts who took the lead on 35 minutes. Andrew Stanhope fed Wayne Hall
who cut inside to crack a 25 yard drive past Danny Embleton, in for the
unavailable Paul Smith.
Following the interval, the Bay came forward in search of an equaliser and on 65
minutes McIlvogue was denied by home keeper Gary Ingham after he had fumbled
Limbert's effort.
At the other end Embleton kept the Bay in the game with saves from Stanhope and
Hall, but the Bay's chances were dealt a blow when Limbert was sent off for a
second bookable offence, the first Seagull to see red this season.
But within a minute of Limert's dismissal and the Bay were back in the game.
Jason Jones crossed from the left for McIlvogue to head in at the far post.
Rather than settling point, the Bay went looking for all three points and they
got their reward six minutes from time. A back pass from Gowshall left
Alun Evans in the clear and he lifted the ball over Ingham in the Trinity goal
and secure the three points which moved the Seagulls up to tenth place in the
Premier Division.
