Colwyn Bay 1 - 5 Frickley Athletic - 08/12/01 - League
The Bay fell to their heaviest defeat of
the season at the hands of Frickley although they actually took the lead in this
Unibond League Premier Division match, but after that the visitors dominated and
the Seagulls crashed to their 10th defeat of the season.
Bay went close to taking the lead on 14 minutes, Alun Evans crossed for James
McIlvogue, who headed wide.
The Bay's keeper Paul Smith had to block a 25 yarder from former Cardiff and
Aberystwyth player Andy Evans on 30 minutes, but within five minutes the Bay
took the lead.
Bay were awarded a free kick on the edge of the area and from Marc Limbert's set
piece James McIlvogue gave Colwyn Bay the lead with a header.
But three minutes before the break and the home side lost their concentration
Steve Oleksewycz levelled after turning two defenders and squeezed his shot past
the near post.
A minute after the break John Wordsworth gave Frickley the lead following a
goalmouth scramble,
Bay went close through Alun Evans and substitute Craig Lawton but it was
Frickley who scored with Oleksewycz scoring his second with just over a quarter
of an hour remaining.
Frickley went 4-1 ahead when Andy Evans headed in a corner, and substitute Gary
Duffey completed Bay's misery pouncing on Pete Myers low cross which deceived
Smith.
