Emley 2 - 0 Colwyn Bay - 22/09/01 - League

Emley have proved to be the Bay's bogey side over the last few season's, and the Seagulls poor record against the Yorkshiremen continued as they lost this UniBond League Premier Division clash at Wakefield Trinity.

Emley had the better of the first half chances with Jamie Robshaw fired wide of the post when well placed in the 14th minute and, six minutes later, Micky Norbury did likewise from a similar range.

The breakthrough came in the 24th minute when Gary Hatto set up a chance for Simeon Bambrook, who let fly from 20 yards and the ball ripped into the top corner of the net giving keeper Paul Smith no chance.

The Seagulls tried to force the pace with Marc Limbert toiling hard in midfield but the Emley defence stood solid.

Darren Day squandered two golden opportunities for the home side before half time, but they deserved their slender lead.

Up front James McIlvogue and Deiniol Graham never stopped running and Graham unleashed a tremendous drive from 20 yards on the hour but keeper Paul Cuss pulled off a superb save to tip the ball over the bar, while McIlvogue was denied by Cuss who prevented a certain goal with a fine save 10 minutes later.

But with the Bay searching for an equaliser they were inevitably caught on the break in the 75th minute when Emley scored their second goal.

Right-back Ian Edge moved up field to lay on a pass to Rob Shaw who touched the ball on for Day to drive intothe net from 12 yards.
