Burton Albion 1 - 0 Colwyn Bay - 30/03/02 - League

The Seagulls were praised by Burton's player-manager Nigel Clough after making the runaway Unibond League Premier Divisions leaders work hard for this victory.

Burton bossed the early stages and might have gone three up in the opening eight minutes. All the chances
fell to Christian Moore who fired wide from Clough's hook, headed wide from Paul Talbot's cross and shot over from 18 yards after showing neat control.

On a hard, bouncy pitch, Burton found it difficult to display their passing skills but the Welshmen stuck to their guns with Glen Graham particularly impressive at the back.

The Bay's best chance of the game came in the 11th minute when Craig Lawton displayed a delightful cross field pass to Marc Limbert whose 15-yard drive was blocked by keeper Matt Burke.

Lawton directed a well struck shot straight at Burke before Burton broke the deadlock in the 21st minute. Clough lobbed the ball into the box and Steve Evans connected with a glorious volley 12 yards out that gave keeper Billy Stewart no chance.

Clough crossed to the near post six minutes later, where Moore got in a header that was tipped over by Stewart.

Burton continued to control the game and seven minutes into the second half, skipper Darren Stride had a goal disallowed for off-side.

Limbert fired wide from 18 yards and Robbie Williams headed over the bar from a Stuart Scheuber cross. Stewart pulled off two more fine saves from Moore but James McIlvogue shot straight at Burke in the 83rd minute.

Jason Kavanagh should have made it 2-0 in stoppage time when Stewart cleared the ball straight to him, but he lobbed over the bar.
