Colwyn Bay 1 - 2 Bradford Park Avenue - 10/11/01 - League
The Bay conceded a last-minute penalty as Bradford
Park Avenue belied their lowly position in this UniBond League Premier Division
clash at Llanelian Road.
Managed by former Liverpool midfielder Trever Storton, Bradford's outstanding
winger Dean Calcutt cut through the Colwyn defence in the ninth minute to set up
Ian Richards, whose shot was parried by keeper Paul Smith.
A minute later, the visitors's Lebanese international Waed Nazha fired wide from
18 yards and three minutes after that, Calcutt's effort was cleared by Glen
Graham.
The Seagulls tightened up at the back and created a couple of excellent chances.
Just before the interval, Bradford nearly took the lead when a Michael Thompson
header hit the bar, but there was no such escape for Colwyn three minutes into
the second half.
Calcutt picked up the ball 25 yards out and curled a superb low shot beyond the
reach of Smith and in off the far post.
Colwyn stepped up their efforts and the industrious Limbert set up Stuart
Schueber, who shot wide in the 51st minute.
The equaliser came in the 69th minute as Limbert bent a 25 yard free kick over
the wall and wide of keeper Dootson.
But Bradford continued to play some attractive football and Calcutt was just off
target with a drive in the 86th minute. A draw looked on the cards until the
89th minute when Andrew Heyward went down in the box and the referee pointed to
the spot.
Kieran O'Brien kept cool to steer the penalty past Smith to give his side all
three points.
