Colwyn Bay 1 - 4 Bangor City - 30/07/01 - Friendly

Bangor City recorded a rare victory over the Bay in a 'friendly' that included seven bookings, four of them Bay players. Bangor were 3-0 up after only 33 minutes with Marc Lloyd Williams and trialist winger Kenny Burgess looking particularly dangerous. Bay 'keeper Paul Smith made a flying one-handed save to turn away an early Lloyd Williams shot but the Seagulls went behind after 17 minutes - seconds after they should have taken the lead themselves. James McIlvogue had a gilt-edged chance from ten yards but his weak shot was saved by City 'keeper Phil Preistley, and from the clearance Burgess broke down the right before crossing perfectly for Matthew Bishop to power a header past Smith. Another weak finish by Calvin Davies from Limbert's astute pass, wasted another good Bay chance and again it proves costly as Marc Lloyd Williams increased Bangor's lead with a 22nd minute penalty after a clumsy challenge by Simon  Richards on Burgess. James McIlvogue had a shot well saved by the 'keeper and Colwyn had strong appeals for a penalty turned down when Calvin Davies seemed to be tripped as he chased a long ball into the box, but Bangor got their third goal on 33 minutes when Smith couldn't hold onto a Paul Roberts shot and Lloyd Williams swept in the loose ball. Calvin Davies pulled one back after the City 'keeper lost control of the ball from a Mark Thomas backpass but it needed a fine double save by Paul Smith to deny Simon Davies and Paul Roberts just before the interval. Calvin Davies has a shot cleared off the line by Bangor defender Dave Rogers early in the second half and McIlvogue headed narrowly wide from a Marc Limbert cross, but Bangor wrapped up the victory on 74 minutes when some neat attacking played ended with Paul Roberts turning in the box and scoring with an angled shot inside the far post.
