Altrincham 2 - 1 Colwyn Bay  - 18/12/01 - League Cup

Colwyn Bay's unsuccessful UniBond League Cup campaign came to an end with defeat at Altrincham, although they could have gained a draw in what was an exciting game.

The Bay went close within the opening five minutes of the game with Craig Lawton and Dean Williams failing to trouble Stuart Coburn in the Altrincham goal.

The Seagulls were punished for those early missed chances when the home side took the lead on 14 minutes. Rod Thornley, who hit a hat-trick against the Bay earlier in the season, scoring.

Within five minutes the Robins were 2-0 up. The Bay failed to clear a corner and Ian Craney doubled his side's tally with a volley from the edge of the box.

Despite their best efforts, Bay could only muster the one goal in reply and that came two minutes later. Stuart Scheuber, facing his former club drilling in a right foot effort from 16 yards.
