Colwyn Bay 3 - 2 Worksop Town - 14/10/00 - League

The Bay came back from an early goal to beat second placed Worksop Town and move into sixth place in the UniBond League Premier Division.

Without injured Chris Waddle, the Tigers took the lead after just two minutes of the game, when Steve Johnson threaded a pass for Kirk Jackson to slot the ball past Richie Roberts.

Within nine minutes, the Bay had equalised. Deiniol Graham linked up with Marc Limbert, who was tripped by Lee Hobson in the box, and Graham converted the resultant penalty.

With the Bay coming more into the game following the equaliser, Graham then struck again on 36 minutes, when he scored a spectacular 25 yard drive which looped over the keeper.

Alun Evans could have extended the lead minutes later, but he could not find the target after rounding the keeper in the penalty area.

Evans was on target ten minutes into the second half, when from a near identical chance to the one he had in the first half, he beat the offside trap to round the keeper and tap into the net.

Worksop came back strongly, and the Bay had to defend solidly. Linden Whitehead’s shot was cleared by Mark Price’s legs on 63 minutes, whilst five minutes later Hindley was brought down in the box by Jonathan Cross in the area, to which the referee awarded the games second penalty. By Richie Roberts was the Bay’s hero as he parried Jackson’s spot kick with Whitehead blasting the loose ball over the bar.

Roberts was again in the thick of the action when he saved a five yard free kick from Chris Bettany, before Jackson fired across the face of goal.

Worksop finally made all their pressure count with 13 minutes left, when Jackson broke on the right, beat Paul Jones and when his drive came back off the post, he dived to head home the rebound in spectacular style.

But Bay held out to claim all three points in an exciting encounter.
