Colwyn Bay 2 - 3 Witton Albion - 09/01/01 - League Cup

With the Bay out of the competition already, the Club's youngsters were given an opportunity to stake a claim.

David Anane gave the visitors the lead after 23 minutes, when he connected with Paul Henin's cross. Nine minutes later, Witton were awarded a penalty when Bay keeper Andy Hughes brought down Lee Cox, but the keeper redeemed himself when he saved Anane's spot kick.

Witton extended their lead in first half injury time. Charlie Boyd latched onto a headed pass and flicked the ball over Hughes. He was then the provider, to set Anane in the clear and he converted easily.

Bay fought back in the second half, and scored on 65 minutes when Steve Barber netted after a mistake by former Crewe keeper Dean Greygoose. Sub Andrew Kendrick scored the Bay's second of the night with a free kick on 85 minutes.

Despite the efforts of the youngsters the fightback was not enough to avoid defeat, but they can take great heart from their performance.
