Colwyn Bay 3 - 2 Spennymoor United - 28/03/01 - League

After a barren run, Colwyn Bay finally ended their dismal run without a win when they beat bottom club Spennymoor United.

But it was a dramatic night at Llanelian Road.

In a game that was seen as a 'Must Win', the Seagulls made the worse possible start. After just four minutes, Colin Caton was adjudged to have
handled in the box, the referee sent the defender off and awarded the Moors a penalty, which Craig Veart duly scored.

The Bay were back in the game nine minutes later when they were awarded a penalty. James McIlvogue was fouled in the area and Alun Evans scored from the resultant spot kick.

But the tale took a further twist on 20 minutes when a defensive mix up gifted the visitors a goal, and Danny Jones had the easy task of tapping the
ball into an unguarded net.

But ten man Bay battled back, and they equalised once more on 33 minutes when Craig Lawton dispossessed Veart and sent Owain Roberts racing into the area to hit a low shot past the keeper.

Dean Williams and Lawton had further chances before the interval.

The second half was as dramatic as the first with Mark Price being forced off with a blow to the head, and Spennymoor were also reduced to ten men
when Jeremy Pratt received a second yellow card for fouling James McIlvogue.

In an often tense second half, both sides had chances to take the lead. Substitute Clavin Davies and McIlvogue went close.

While it was looking as though the match was heading for a draw, the Bay breakthrough came in the 88th minute. Craig Lawton hit a corner into the
Spennymoor penalty area and Graham Roberts popped up to power a diving header into the roof of the net.

The Bay fans had to endure five nail biting minutes of injury time, but when the referee blew the final whistle they celebrated their first win since
October 14, ending a depressing run of 25 League and Cup games without a win.
