Spennymoor United 1 - 1 Colwyn Bay - 02/09/00 - League

After going behind, the Bay came back to secure a point at Spennymoor United.

The Bay were without Colin Caton, Deiniol Graham and Jonathan Cross, but making his debut in the centre of defence was new signing Anthony Fenton

Spennymoor had the early chances and after nine minutes a Martin Bowes fired his shot across the face of the Bay’s goal.

The Bay’s best chance during the early exchanges came after 16th minute when Alun Evans went past a defender having his shot blocked at the last minute be David Andison, an away for a corner. From the resultant corner, Evans fired wide from 12 yards.

Spennymoor had further efforts before the break from Bowes, Craig Veart and Mark Wheldon, who unleashed  a blistering 25 yard shot, which was saved by Richie Roberts.

Spennymoor broke the deadlock in the 60th minute. A right wing cross from Wheldon was headed clear but Craig Veart struck the ball first time from 25 yards past Richie Roberts and in off the post.

A goal down, the Bay came searching for the equaliser and they could have scored when Evans missed with the goal at his mercy. Evans again shot wide a few minutes later with only John Jackson in the Spennymoor goal to beat. Andison cleared off the line from substitute Frank Gibbons header.

Colwyn Bay got a deserved equaliser on 80 minutes when Marc Limbert hit a superb 25 yard free kick past Moor’s keeper John Jackson, and secure a share of the points.
