Colwyn Bay 1 - 2 Lancaster City - 17/03/01 - League

A battling performance from the Bay, but they were made to rue hitting the woodwork on two occasions as third placed third-placed Lancaster. City won this UniBond League Premier Division encounter at Llanelian Road.

During an even first quarter plays end to end with the first chance going to the Bay's Owain Roberts who shaved the post after lobbing 'keeper Mark Thornley. The slippery surface provided several dangerous moments for both sides and one brought a shot from Lancaster's Paul Rigby only for Richie Roberts to save well before Mark Thornley tested him soon after.

Although Lancaster led territorially it was yet another free kick cross by Paul Jones which was met by Jonathan Cross to head by the post while Dean Williams shot from 25 yards was hard enough for Thornley so spill it.

At the start of the second half Craig Lawton came on for the injured Owain Roberts and immediately shot wide just wide before Lancaster winger Colin Potts who had been a thorn in Bay's side scored from distance on the 50th minute, A powerful Jonathan Cross drive scraped the bar for the Bay before another Potts lob was touched in by Brian Welch in the 55th minute.

From then on it was mainly the Bay pushing on in order to get something out the game and James McIlvogue who, with Alan Evans, never gives less than his best, headed just wide. Then on the hour Dean Williams headed home to reducethe arrears.

Bay's pressure went unrewarded, illustrated as McIlvogue hit the inside of the post. and then cleared off the line.
