Colwyn Bay 0 - 4 Emley - 28/01/01 - League

Emley showed just why they are Unibond League Premier Division table toppers after a convincing win over the Bay at Llanelian Road.

Marc Limbert had the games earliest chance when he fired over the Emley bar from 25 yards in the first minute. Two minutes later Deiniol Graham, making his comeback following his loan spell at Bangor, turned smartly 10 yards out but shot wide.

On 11 minutes Mark Price cleared Simeon Bambrooke's effort after he had rounded Bay keeper Danny Embleton, whilst on 20 minutes Bambrooke hit the angle of the post and bar from 25 yards.

Emley's pressure paid off when on 23 minutes they took the lead, with Rory Prendergast letting fly from 25 yards with a shot that looped over Embleton.

The visitors went two up with an equally impressive goal, as Wael Nazha struck a tremendous drive from 30 yards out.

In the second half, Embleton, who impressed in the Bay goal, used his legs to save from Bambrooke. At the other end Bay pushed forward and Alun Evans saw his shot sail over the bar after Limbert's efort was blocked.

The Bay battled in the second half, but found it hard going against a well organised Emley defence. Craig Lawton had a shot which was well saved by the keeper.

The Bay's bad luck was typified by Emley's third goal. Prendergast's cross was turned into his own net in bizare fashion by Bay left back Paul Jones.

And things got worse. Only minutes after being announced as the Bay's man of the match, Jonathan Cross was shown a red card for a professional foul on Mark Wilson. The Emley man had the last laugh, as Wilson scored the fourth from close range in the dying minutes.

A disappointing result for the Bay who remain in 20th place, although they can gain some consolation having lost to arguably the most impressive visitors to Llanelian Road this season.

The attendance was 364 and is therefore the Bay's highest for a league game so far this season.
