Bishop Auckland 5 - 1 Colwyn Bay - 31/03/01 - League

Colwyn Bay slumped to yet another heavy defeat on their travels losing 5-1 to Bishop Auckland in the UniBond Premier League.

In an incident packed game Bay had two players dismissed, had two penalties awarded against them and saw their own claims for two blatant spot kicks fall on deaf ears.

The beleaguered Seagulls who went into this game having picked up three points for the first time since October 14 against Spennymoor last week
almost took a first minute lead when Deiniol Graham saw his shot go just wide.

The home side though took control of the match and took the lead after 22 minutes. Richie Roberts spilled Mark Foster's 18 yard shot into the path of Danny Mellanby to finish the rebound.

Resilient Bay rallied and were denied a penalty soon after when Foster appeared to handle Glen Graham's well struck shot.

On 43 minutes the Gulls were denied another penalty when Deiniol Graham was scythed down by Mike Nelson in the box, still reeling from being denied a second blatant spot kick, Danny Brunskill broke for the visitors beat Roberts in the Gull's goal and put the hosts 2-0 up at the interval.

Three minutes into the second half the Gulls gave themselves a glimmer of hope when Colin Caton blasted his free kick into the host's net.

However 10 minutes later the luckless Gulls found themselves 3-1 down after Brunskill headed home from a Dion Rates cross.

In the 77th minute Bay were dead and buried when Richie Roberts was dismissed for bringing down the lively Brunskill outside his box.

Then on 85 minutes it was the impressive Brunskill who again wreaked havoc in the Bay box and this time was brought down by Colin Caton in the area, Andy Shaw stepped up to convert the resulting penalty.

Four minutes later Glen Graham was red carded for his challenge on Mark Salmon and in the 90th minute Bay's miserable afternoon was completed as Shaw stepped up to score his second spot kick following a clumsy Dean Williams foul on Mellanby.
